Hurricane Katrina
August 31, 2005
Dear Customer,
Most of you know that PJ's Coffee is a New Orleans-based
coffeehouse. As you might imagine, the events of the last
week have deeply affected the entire PJ's family. We worry
about friends and business partners and we are gathering information,
in bits and pieces as it becomes available, regarding the
extent of damage in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.
What we know as of now is that many of our stores in and
around New Orleans are inoperable or no longer exist, as well
as a couple of stores in other areas that were hit hardest
by the hurricane, including Gulfport, MS. Our locations in
Florida, Georgia, and some in Northern Louisiana are operating
today and will become places of support and donations in the
coming weeks.
What we have learned, by talking with our staff, our friends,
our suppliers, and our franchise partners in the area, is
that these people form a determined group, a group determined
to re-build. And as we re-build we will be committed to preserving
not just the old-world charm of the area, but also the spirit,
culture, and determination of its people.
Many of you have asked how you can help. First and foremost,
take it upon yourselves to support businesses that originate
or have a relationship with New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.
They need your frequency and your commerce. Second, we ask
that you continue to monitor this page for updates on other
vehicles we are putting in place to assist our friends and
neighbors along the Gulf Coast.
Our prayers, thoughts, and efforts are with the victims of
this tragedy, as well as their families and everyone affected,
no matter where they live.
