Abita Beer Launches Macchiato Espresso Milk Stout Beer Featuring PJ’s Coffee

New Orleans, La. (December 10th, 2013) Abita Beer is perkin' up with the help of PJ's Coffee of New Orleans (PJ's). The Abita Springs-based brewery has recently partnered with PJ's and released its newest Select beer, the Macchiato Espresso Milk Stout. The Macchiato is available on draft nationwide for a limited time only and will be released through December.
PJ's Coffee is excited to work with Abita to produce the Macchiato Espresso Milk Stout, says Felton Jones, Roastmaster at PJ's Coffee. The flavor profile of our espresso dolce beans work as a perfect complement to give the Macchiato its smooth coffee flavor.

The Abita Macchiato gained its inspiration from the Macchiato coffee drink, capturing the perfect balance between sweetness and bitterness. The Abita Macchiato is made with pale, caramel, chocolate and roasted malts. Oats and lactose are added to give the beer a more robust and sweeter taste. The sweetness of the lactose helps balance the bitterness of the brew. The roasted malts give the beer its dark color as well as its intense flavor and aroma. Willamette hops are added to balance out the sweetness of the malts. Finally, PJ's espresso dolce beans are added to the aging tank. This gives the beer a strong coffee flavor and aroma that compliments the existing flavors of the malt.

We're proud to launch our newest Select beer that brings together not only two unique flavor combinations, but two Louisiana companies, says David Blossman, President of Abita. "Both Abita and PJ's Coffee are Louisiana brands with strong roots in our distinctive culture of celebrations, food and fun. Macchiato is a great way to bring our companies together to create something that's Louisiana True."

Stouts originated in the UK in the 1700's and craft brewers in the US have recently revived popularity in the style. One of the ways craft brewers have accomplished the gaining popularity of the stout is by adding non-traditional ingredients to accentuate the characteristics of the beer style. This idea provided the inspiration for the newly launched Macchiato Espresso Stout.

The Macchiato Espresso Stout, at 6% alcohol by volume, is most popularly served with chocolate desserts. The beer also pairs nicely with grilled steaks, red meats, or simply as an after dinner drink.
